Sometimes the world is too wide and must be viewed in a sweeping glance that cannot satisfy the memory's need to preserve such a scene. A still image makes it possible to hold in time such a vision. Some images can be taken at a distance and cropped to isolate a sweeping vista, but other images require multiple slices seamlessly pieced together to create what the eye and the imagination have beheld. Almost any landscape from the vast vista of Bryce Canyon to the cascading water of Bridal Veil Falls in Utah's Provo Canyon, lends itself to a narrow panoramic view that leads the eye across the linear features of Nature's canvas. These photographs are especially impressive above a couch or fireplace parallel to features of a similar shape.
